On August 10th, 2026, a devastating earthquake struck Colombia, and my hometown of Cali, the city where I was born, was hit the hardest.
Cali is not just a place on a map to me. It's where my story began. Where my parents built their lives. Where my roots run so deep that no distance has ever changed what it means to call it home.
And right now, it is suffering.
Here is where things stand for my family: My parents' apartment has finally been opened, and videos have been sent to architects who will assess the condition in person. We are waiting. The building itself has been deemed stable, but the stairs have separated from the walls and are not secured. Evacuations remain voluntary in the complex, but building inspections are moving slowly, far too slowly, leaving families in limbo, unsure of what is safe and what is not.
My parents are navigating this uncertainty in real time. What awaits them when the full assessment comes, the repairs, the costs, the unknown. For other members of my family, the picture is even harder. They lost much more. Buildings around them have been declared uninhabitable. Structures are being demolished. What they built over a lifetime is gone. This is not a story with a clean ending yet. It is still unfolding.

There is no overhead, no organization, no middleman. Just me, born in Cali, raised on the American dream, doing everything I can for the people who made me. 🇨🇴
Cali's animals need us too: The Animal Association of Cali, rescuing, sheltering, and supporting the animals who have been found and pulled from the rubble. Because in a disaster, the voiceless are always the most vulnerable. We will not leave them behind. 🐾
